Inner / outer: Primarily inner, with the outer relational thread kept alive through Laing — direct preparation for the personal work of the flagship course.
Duration:Loading…
Format: Reading, exercise & a personal 1-to-1 tutorial
Overview
The turn inward, using everything studied so far as material. Jung supplies the architecture of the unconscious and individuation; Laing supplies a more radical, relational reading of selfhood — how the outer world of family and society can fracture as much as it forms the inner one. Together they give you a modern, psychologically literate vocabulary for what the earlier courses approached through myth and symbol.
What this course covers
Jung's model of the unconscious, archetypes, and the individuation process; Laing's account of the divided self and the relational roots of psychological distress; and a direct comparison of Jung's more inward, symbolic method against Laing's more outward, relational one.
Suggested reading
C. G. Jung, Man and His Symbols
C. G. Jung, Memories, Dreams, Reflections
R. D. Laing, The Divided Self
Topics of investigation
How does Jung's idea of the archetype relate to the symbols already studied — the Tree of Life, the medicine wheel, the figures of the Books of the Dead?
What does Laing's work suggest about how much of the “inner world” is actually shaped from outside it?
What would Jung's process of individuation look like, described in the language of the earlier courses' traditions?
Practical Activity & Exercise
Dream journalling over the course period, followed by a written self-analysis using Jungian concepts — discussed rather than diagnosed in the tutorial.
